First Lady Flags off She Cranes for World netball Cup in England

The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni have flagged-off the She Cranes set to compete at the Netball World Cup due July 12-21 in Liverpool, England.

The minister sent off a team of 13 player’s official’s on Thursday after a luncheon at the State House, Nakasero.

She advised the players to put God first before and after every match at the World Cup.

“I have faith in you and I am very sure you will put up a very good performance at the World Cup,” she stated.

“You have been at the World Cup before and I have trust that the Lord will empower you to defeat all the teams that you’re going to meet.”

“Besides that, I am proud in the Cranes ‘both football and netball’ for putting Uganda to the global map,” she added.

The team that was flagged off includes first-timers Mary Nuba, Betty Kizza, Joan Nampungu, Muhaimina Namuwaya, and Stella Nanfuka.

Others are Lillian Ajio, Jesca Achan, Ruth Meeme, Sylvia Nanyonga, Racheal Nanyonga, and Stella Oyella.

They will be joined by the captain Peace Proscovia who is currently playing professional in Australia.

The send-off ceremony was also attended by among others National Council (NCS) chairman Bosco Onyik, Patrick Ogwel, and David Katende.

The She Cranes depart for the UK on Friday at 4 pm ahead of the 10-day event.

They are scheduled to launch the World Cup campaign on July 12 against host The Roses at the M&S Arena.

Thereafter the She Cranes will face Samoa and Scotland in the other Pool D fixtures next weekend.
