As the political tense is getting heated to the parliamentary nominations, the speaker of parliament RT. Hon, Rebecca Kadaga gets relief as one of the aspirants for the Kamuli Woman parliamentary slot Deborah Mwesigwa Mugerwa has decided to pull out of the race endorsing Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.
The Homeland Newspaper has learnt that, Deborah Mwesigwa has been contesting against Kadaga three times; losing on all occasions, and that in the just concluded NRM Party primaries Kadaga garnered over 110,000 votes against Mwesigwa’s 7,000 votes.
Deborah Mwesigwa had protested the elections saying that she would stand as an independent but at a joint press conference held at parliament, she said she had pulled out of the race and had endorsed Rebecca Kadaga.
She said that her decision to pull out of the race has been as a result of her engagement with the Obwakyabazinga of Busoga and she does not want to antagonize development programmes spaere headed by Rebecca Kadaga.
The Kamuli district woman Member of Parliament Race will be left between Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga and FDC’s Proscovia Salaamu Musumba.
Kadaga welcomed Mwesigwa’s decision to pull out of the race saying she is now ready to tussle it out with FDC’s Musumba
The parliamentary nominations are scheduled for Thursday 15th and Friday 16th of next week.
