The Kenya Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has on Tuesday evening started receiving presidential results from across all the polling stations countrywide..

All the form 34As’ from 46,229 polling stations have been reported and uploaded on the IEBC public portal as per the law.

At the time of publishing, the two Presidential front runners Raila Odinga and William Ruto were neck and neck in provisional results tallied by media houses.

The hotly contested poll that came to a close Tuesday at 5 pm was hit by voter apathy with at least 12,065,803 of the 22,102,532 registered voters turning out to cast their ballots as of 4 pm, equating to 56.17 per cent.

The IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati who is the Presidential Returning Officer for the 9 August 2022 general election is yet to start announcing the results that will be streamed from the national tallying centre at Bomas.

The tallying centre has three screens to project the number of Form 34As received from polling stations, and another for collated results received from the constituencies while the third one will project the county aggregates.

In an earlier press briefing,  Chebukati clarified that the eagerly awaited results tallied at all the Constituency tallying centres would be declared once they have been verified from form 34B’s against their respective form 34A’s followed by a collation of form 34C’s which is the form with the collation of all polling station results.

Thereafter, the commission would oversee confirmation of the constitutional threshold of 50+1 and also the confirmation of 25pc of the majority of counties as the final process before the declaration of the winner and awarding of the presidential certificate.

The verification process is ongoing in presence of the four political agents and IEBC officials.

Chebukati has made it clear that the results announced at polling stations are final and cannot be changed by anyone.
