Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations who is also a General in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), has gotten a lot of support from both inside and outside the National Resistance Movement (NRM) for his plans to run for president in 2026.

During a visit to the party’s secretariat last week, his friends and supporters gave President Yoweri Museveni their support for the 2026 presidential election.

The NRM party leaders described the endorsement, which took place at the party headquarters on Kyadondo Road in Kampala, as a thoughtful act that would foster unity within the party.

“There is only one NRM party in the country, and we are a party that doesn’t care if you are a member of the MK army or part of his presidential project. Moses Kigongo, the NRM’s national vice president, stated, “All we know is that we are one party and must collaborate to achieve party harmony.”

He continued: We will think about supporting someone else unless President Museveni decides not to return as the NRM’s presidential flag bearer.

When they visited the party yesterday, the MK team was led by businessman Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, who is also Muhoozi’s personal friend.

Barugahara stated during the visit, “We have come to the NRM secretariat because we want to harmonize and seek guidance on how we can work together with the NRM party leaders without confronting them because they are our founding fathers.”

Muhoozi, who is also the son of President Museveni, has indicated several times that he would like to run for president in 2026. However, his father has not indicated that he will not run for party chairman.
