The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) will tomorrow (Tuesday, January 21), brief the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Mama Janet Museveni, on the performance of candidates in the 2024 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE).
The briefing, scheduled for 2 pm at State House Nakasero will culminate in the official date for the release of 2024 PLE Results which parents and vacists are eagerly waiting on.
The meeting will also provide an opportunity for UNEB to share more details about the examination process, the performance of candidates, and the way forward for education in Uganda.
UNEB spokesperson Jennifer Kalule assured the public that the board has taken all necessary measures to ensure the integrity and security of the examination process. “We are confident that the results will reflect the true performance of the candidates,” she said.
Official UNEB figures show that a total of 1,320,400 candidates registered for the four national examinations, commonly referred to as the “4Es”, marking a 7.8% increase in registration compared to last year.
A further breakdown of these figures shows that 798,771 candidates sat for the PLE, while 379,748 candidates took the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams across various centres nationwide. The Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) also saw a significant increase in candidature, with a 28.4% rise in registration.
Of these, female candidates accounted for 51.1%, indicating a slight increase in the number of girls accessing education. This trend is consistent with the government’s efforts to promote girls’ education and empower women in Uganda.
The board’s Executive Director, Dan N. Odongo, expressed his gratitude to the examiners and other stakeholders who contributed to the successful administration of the exams.
