The incumbent Bushenyi district Woman Member of Parliament, Annet Katusiime Mugisha has been declared winner in ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primary elections for Bushenyi district Woman MP.

The NRM on Thursday held primary elections across the country to elect flag bearers for the 2026 general elections.

In a hotly contested race for Bushenyi Woman Member of Parliament, Mrs Mugisha secured a resounding victory with 49,604 votes, representing 60.6% of the total votes cast.

She defeated her rival, Vivian Kemigisha who garnered 32,279 votes (39.4%), according to the official declaration of results form signed by the Bushenyi district NRM Electoral Commission Returning Officer, Arch Angel Barekye.

IDDI Basajja

Meanwhile, in the race for Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality Member of Parliament, Iddi Basajja won decisively with 13,765 votes representing 73.3% of the total vote.

Basajja defeated three other contenders, including; Marvin Baryaruha who came second with 4,519 votes (24.6%), Nicholas Ndyakira with 458 votes, and David Kamukama who garnered 34 votes.

Bushenyi is a predominantly NRM district, and votes for NRM candidates in almost all elections.

Winning an NRM flag gives the flag bearer a huge leverage over their rivals in the general elections.

In Igara West, Cohen Amanya Kyampene has been declared winner and NRM flag bearer for the Igara West MP seat.

Amanya garnered 24,097 votes representing 47.4% of the votes.

He defeated five contenders, including Boniface Tugume who came second with 18,362 votes representing 36.1% of the vote.

Mackline Asimiire came third with 4,771 votes representing 9.4% of the vote.

Jacob Mwije Kakiyagara came number four with 1,527 votes representing 3% of the vote while Dan Nimwesiga came fifth with 340 votes representing 0.67% of the votes.

Winners will hold the NRM flag in the 2026 general elections.
