The Ugandan music industry is mourning the death of fast-rising singer Olisha M, who died Friday while giving birth at Nsambya Hospital in Kampala.

The singer, whose real name was Olivia Mildred Namubiru, was admitted for delivery but died during labor, according to close friends. News of her death spread across social media Friday evening, leaving fans and fellow musicians in shock. Details surrounding the incident remain unclear as family members have not yet issued an official statement.

Olisha M rose to prominence with songs such as “Ebiwooma,” featuring Kent & Flosso, and “Gwenjagala.” Her unique blend of Afrobeat, dancehall and R&B rhythms made her one of the most promising female voices in Ugandan music.

Tributes flooded social media platforms, with fans expressing disbelief and sorrow over her death.

“This is heartbreaking. She was such a bright star,” one Facebook user wrote. Others described her as humble, talented and full of potential.

It was not immediately clear whether the newborn survived. Friends close to the family said funeral arrangements would be communicated later.

Olisha M’s death has reignited conversations about maternal health and the challenges many women in Uganda face during childbirth. Her passing marks a profound loss for the local entertainment industry, cutting short a life and career that had only begun to shine.
