Uganda’s coronavirus cases have risen to 833 after 12 cases tested positive from samples that were analyzed on Wednesday June 25, the Ministry of Health has said.

The positive cases were picked from over 2000 samples that were tested from different testing centres including border entry points.

The Ministry of Health says two of the positive cases of truck drivers were picked from Malaba point of entry— having arrived from Kenya while 10 cases were from communities.

Those from the community were from Kyotera (2), Amuru (4), Tororo (1) Luweero (2) and Buikwe (1) districts.

Additionally, a total of 25 foreign truck drivers who tested positive for the coronavirus were sent back home.

Meanwhile, Kakumiro district COVID-19 taskforce is hunting for a 30-year-old man who tested positive for the virus but vanished from the district.

The Kakumiro COVID-19 case is among the 16 confirmed cases from 3,455 samples tested on Wednesday June, 24.

This is the first time someone test positive for COVID-19 in Kakumiro.

Apollo Mugume, the Resident District Commissioner told Uganda Radio Network – URN that the victim who had come from Kasese with intentions of starting a Non government organization – NGO in Kakumiro town council last week was first subjected to a test by picking his nasal swab samples after the taskforce became suspicious of him.

Mugume says after taking his samples, the victim chose to self-quarantine but later disappeared to an unknown destination after realizing that his result turned positive for COVID-19, a thing that has caused tension among residents since the patient is believed to have interacted with many people before he was subjected to the COVID-19 test.
