According to Hon.Alice Alaso, the ANT deputy national coordinator in charge of Finance and Administration told the Homeland Newspaper that, Gen. Mugisha Muntu will now seek election as the party flag bearer ahead of the 2021 presidential election and that his decision to step down is in line with the party’s constitutional requirement. “It is true, Gen Muntu, in fulfillment of the requirement of our party constitution has resigned,” said whose names withheld.

In his resignation letter, Muntu cites interest in the party’s presidential flag, as a reason for stepping down..

“This is to inform you that I intend to seek nomination to compete as a candidate for the party flag bearer,” says Gen Muntu, adding that, “this letter therefore serves to inform you that I am taking leave of office as provided for in Article 9(2.6.)”
He adds, “I wish to further express my appreciation to the National Interim Committee, all members and supporters of the party for the cooperation accorded to me while serving at the helm of the Alliance for National Transformation.

Gen. Mugisha Mugisha told The Homeland Newspaper that the ANT party is not only focusing on the presidency but all positions as well.

Gen. Muntu made the remarks after ANT top organ meeting on Friday 26th June 2020, where he resigned his position as interim chairman to prepare for presidential campaigns.

According to Gen. Mugisha Muntuyera, our party the ANT is ready to use available means to do consultations and reach out to Ugandans in a bid to transform a new era in building patriotic and all inclusive democracy where ever one should be involved.

Gen.Muntu said, the ANT party never intend to go into rallies since the circumstances do not allow but elections has to go on and that Uganda is for all of us to decide where it should go.

“We are looking at 2021 as an opportunity to overwhelm the regime, wherever we go, desire for change is stronger than it has ever been. If you want to cause significant change, you cut the problem from the roots,” he said.

Gen. Mugisha Muntu further said “An individual will not solve the problems of the country. We need to attract candidates who want change. We need to continue organizing and put in place the necessary infrastructure to protect our votes,” said Muntu.

He said that ANT is its following plans however much they find challenges which he said is expected in any struggle.

“We have never believed that we shall have a free and fair election, however we prepare ourselves ahead so that we overwhelm the regime come 2021,” Muntu said.

He added that” We have a regime and incumbent that doesn’t want to let go. That is why they are separate in the way they handle things. We do not only want to take power but also change the political culture as well.”

The ANT party leadership recently rolled out a roadmap for its delegates’ conference slated for August this year. The letters are dated June 26, 2020.

Gen Mugisha Muntu launched the party in May last year after leaving the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), in what he said was one of his efforts to unseat President Museveni who has ruled Uganda for more than three decades.
