A new multi-billion Kasubi market that will accommodate close to a thousand vendors has been officially opened by President   Yoweri Museveni.

Museveni said that people who are vending commodities including food stuff should now relocate to the new modern markets and leave the streets and roads for motorists and pedestrians.   He also vowed to fight and stop the wide spread corruption which is taking away so much resources from the people.

The President called upon the new KCCA leadership to decisively deal with the corrupt law enforcement officers and warned police that those involved in corruption will face the full force of the law.

The market located about a kilometer from Kasubi Junction has about 15 shelters for vendors’ stalls, a police post, a Children Centre, an office block, a perimeter wall and seven 500 liter water harvesting tanks among other facilities.

Charles Kironde, the technical director of CK Associates Limited, says they have achieved this with less disturbances except from rain that delayed works at some point.

He says that the project has a deficit liability period of one year within which they can repair any defects at the market at no extra cost.

Museveni also flagged off the construction works for Nakamiro and Lubigi channels respectively. Nakamiro drainage channel is 3.28 kms long and works will cost sh20.2 billion while the 2.5km-long Lubigi channel works will cost sh62.6 billion
