MAKINDYE-WEYONJE, a community netball club playing in the top tier league of Uganda has acquired the services of two young inspirational players, Nassaka Shakira born on 28th June 1998 and Nabilanda Jalirah born on 4th September 1999.

Both players first joined up with Uganda Peoples Defence Force (UPDF), in January 2019, making their debut with the side. Their progress throughout the season was exceptional, 2019 proved to be a big year for both Nassaka and Nabilanda who became the youngest netballers to ply their trade in the army club.

Both players performances helped UPDF to a fifth-place finish in the 2019 Uganda netball league, they proved instrumental to UPDF’s campaign with the side losing just three matches to eventual competition winners National Insurance Corporation (NIC).

This ambitious community netball club competes in the Uganda Netball League and its goal is to see that is another power house netball club in Uganda arises to dethrone the likes of National Insurance Corporation who have for years been dominating the sport, KCCA and Uganda Prisons.

Nassaka expressed her delight at being back at Weyonje, saying; “I’m so thankful to the management of Makindye-Weyonje netball club for giving me the opportunity to come and play in one of the beloved community club.”

While Nabilanda said she was thrilled to be joining Makindye-Weyonje netball club.

“I’ve always dreamed of playing for Weyonje  and it feels quite fitting to be coming from across  to Weyonje after playing for UPDF  in  last season,” said Nabilanda.

Makindye-Weyonje communication manager Eddy Odiambo said the signing was a massive coup for the Club, with several clubs having fought hard to secure both players signatures.

We are super excited to have Nassaka and Nabilanda for 2020 season.  After an excellent 2019 season with UPDF, We are excited to get them in the Makindye environment.

Meanwhile, Weyonje are now setting their eyes on the She cranes and National Insurance Corporation (NIC) netball club goal attacker and shooter Racheal Nanyonga.
