As the economy continues to face difficulties especially when businesses are facing traumas due to the covid-19 pandemic that hindered almost every sector, Ugandans especially the town workers have come out and stressed their disgrace about the increasing costs in transport that has left their wallets empty.
Among those Ugandans who were affected by the increase in transport were those who work in towns and have to move from their areas of residence to the work areas.
Whereas the ministry of transport came up and gave its guidelines to those in the transport sector, where it issued minimum transport rates according to the different stages, it has continued to frustrate not only the daily earners but even the monthly earners.
Ugandans are also cautious about their lives as they say that many drivers, conductors and motorcyclists have continued to violet the directives that were issued by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Transport and the Uganda Police Force.
Ugandans say that the police entitled to enforce law and order, has failed to capture this mandate and has been seen violating the directives.
Julius Bushana, a reporter and news anchor NBS said that the government should come up and intervene. He as well called upon all the stake holders to work together to solve the challenge.
He also said that since the prices of fuel did not increase, then the costs should also be moderate.
Patrick Gala, a reporter at Success FM said that taxis that move up countries carry excessive numbers beyond nine people as were guided, prices are hiking, and Standard Operating Procedures are not observed. He called upon the public and the government to be cautious about the pandemic.
Ivan kakooza a reporter at Baaba TV said that their incomes are low yet transport costs are high. He said that he spends almost what he gets in transport. He however called upon the government to come up and help them.
Gideon Wesige and Moses Kayemba said that the transport costs are high and at times the drivers have a tendency of changing the prices along the way which annoys them. Moses further said that at times they are dropped along the way.
They therefore, call upon the government to come and rescue the common man.
