Uganda prison service Boss Dr.Johnson Byabashaija has made structural adjustments in the prison system in form of programming, building the safety systems for all prisons, stuffing and increasing the capacity of the prison officers in protection, safety, and respect for human rights in facilities.

According to Frank Bine the Communications Director of prison service, he says the recent prison break in Moroto has been attributed to the lack of enough personnel to handle the increasing number of prisoners.

On Tuesday 22nd September, the Commissioner-General of prisons Dr. Johnson Byabashaija placed a bounty on the 207 prisoners who escaped with guns.

Dr.Byabashaija said that a sum of 1.5 million shillings is to be awarded per gun recovered while five hundred Uganda shillings will be pegged on every prisoner identified within the communities.

According to Dr.Byabashaija Moroto will be used as the treatment center for all prisoners as opposed to ferrying them from one hospital to another.

On 17th September, 2020, Uganda Prison authorities confirmed they had captured 9 escapees, 3 were shot dead as hunting for other 207 escapees is still on in all places around Mt.Moroto and the Kenya Uganda Borderline.

Dr. Byabashaija calls upon the public to be vigilant and work with prison authorities to identify and report the runaway prisoners that he hopes to have integrated into different communities by now.
