Makerere University launches fundraising drive to restore the iconic ivory tower tower

Makerere University Vice-Chancellor Professor Barnabas Nawangwe has on October 1st, 2020 launched the fundraising program for the restoration of its iconic building the ivory tower that was burnt under mysterious circumstances.

According to Prof.Nawangwe, Makerere University launched different fundraising platforms through which money for the rebuilding of the university iconic tower will be received under a theme “we shall restore our icon”.

Prof. Busingye Kabunga a lecturer at Makerere School of Law was the first person to contribute with one million Shillings. MasterCard pledged one million Dollars while Stanbic Bank Uganda pledged to contribute thirty-two desktop computers and twelve laptops.

Prof. Nawangwe called upon the Makerere University Allumni, friends, well wishers and the general public to contribute and support the restoration of their Ivory Tower.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Buganda Kingdom Owek. Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa also paid a courtesy visit to the Makerere University Vice-Chancellor to deliver a message of sympathy from the Buganda Kingdom. Owek. Nsibirwa has reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting Makerere University to restore the Ivory Tower.

Owek. Nsibirwa is a grandson of former Katikkiro Martin Luther Nsibirwa who during his reign approved the donation of the land where the University is.
