Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated Tanzania’s incumbent President John Magufuli for the landslide victory he has attained in the just concluded presidential elections.

In a message posted on twitter President Museveni congratulates Magufuli and the Chama Cha Mapinduzi Party for the landslide victory.

“Congratulations to His Excellency @MagufuliJP and Chama Cha Mapinduzi Party on the resounding victory in the just-concluded elections. Uganda looks forward to working even more closely with you and the people of Tanzania to deepen our social, economic and political ties. Hongera!” the tweet reads.

Tanzanian President John Magufuli won a resounding election victory Friday with 84 percent of votes. Magufuli’s main challenger, the Chadema party candidate Tundu Lissu, 52, won only 13 percent of the vote

“The commission declares John Magufuli of CCM (Chama Cha Mapinduzi) who garnered the majority of votes as the winner in the presidential seat…” said commission chairman Semistocles Kaijage.

Uganda and Tanzania are jointly working on several projects and there is a close relationship between the two Presidents.

Presidents Magufuli and Museveni in September 2020, in Chato, Tanzania signed the Host Government Agreement (HGA) for the construction of the Crude Oil Pipeline project.

The 1,445KM Pipeline will transport crude oil from Uganda’s oil fields to the Port of Tanga on the Indian Ocean.

The ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi party has won 194 seats in the 393-member parliament, while opposition parties have managed to win just two, with the leaders of the two main opposition parties losing their seats.

Magufuli’s CCM party, a version of which has held power in Tanzania since independence from Britain in 1961, has already retained power in the semi-autonomous archipelago of Zanzibar with 76% of the vote.

The Main opposition presidential candidate Tundu Lissu of the CHADEMA party, who has received 14 percent of the vote so far has cited some regularites in the process as it the norm for African politicians who never concede defeate.

However, the electoral commission has denied allegations of irregularities.

The losing candidate Tundu Lissu is connected to Uganda’s Bobi wine and they’re both mentored by American Lawyer Robert Amsterdam.

in his recent tweet, he indicated how the two opposition candidates were going to oust the incumbents. “Magufuli and M7 have political machines at war with their own people. Bobi Wine and Tundu Lissu represent the Voices of their people in epic struggles to unseat one Party Rule. Internal Colonialism must be ended!” Amsterdam tweeted.

However, Tundu Lissu’s devastating defeat has also predicted Bobi Wine’s fate in the forthcoming elections.
