The Secretary-General of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Justine Kasule Lumumba, has urged Journalists to respect the orders of security forces while executing their work.

Kasule Lumumba remarked while responding to the questions asked by Journalists on what they termed continuous brutality by police while covering political trails.

She noted that many Journalists think when holding a camera, puts them above the law and disrespects orders of security forces.

“I have observed in many cases when police ask Journalists to go the other side but instead some defy the orders putting their lives in danger as police enforces COVID-19 guidelines,” Lumumba said.

Kasule Lumumba who was speaking during the party’s weekly press briefing at NRM Secretariat Kyadondo in Kampala on Sunday (December 13, 2020) said some Journalists have become activists instead of respecting their values.

She, however, assured Journalists to make a call to the Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola for guidance.

Lumumba was accompanied by Matthias Kasamba, NRM director mobilization.

She urged NRM members that the party has rolled out the village-based campaigns, and the party is conscious about the Covid-19 pandemic, therefore requesting village mobilizers to embrace the new normal and limit cross-district movements in their mobilization work.

“I want to call upon our mobilisers and supporters that campaigns are based at village level, at workplaces and institutions. We encourage door-to-door, person-to-person, house-to-house mobilization,” she advised.

She revealed that because of COVID-19, the party had to make changes to suit the new normal adding that funds from the party to support the different structures or individuals whether candidates or committees is banked directly to the district accounts.
