The granddaughter of former President of Uganda late Alhaji Idi Amin Dada has over the weekend in Kyankwanzi poured praises with an emotional tribute to President Yoweri Museveni for welcoming the Al min Family and support that has made them feel better as Ugandans.

In her remarks to the NRM congregation Dr. Aate Sharifah Taban Amin, a granddaughter of President Amin Dada and now Woman Member of Parliament for Koboko District described Museveni as a ‘father’ and ‘grandfather’ she never had.

“I could not imagine myself walking out of here without thanking you. I am struggling with emotions, I did not prepare a speech to thank you, but I would like to say you are a father, thank you,” she said before breaking down.

This was during a church service at the National Leadership Institute(NALI) in Kyankwanzi where the NRM MPs are holding a three-week retreat.

Dr. Aate revealed that President Museveni brought back her family even when her father was a rebel against his government.

“You forgave my father who was a rebel, brought us back home, gave us a house and educated us. I am now a doctor because of you,” she added.

Aate who could not control her emotions then knelt down again, thanked Museveni for his generosity and fatherhood.

“You are a father. I never saw my grandfather Idi Amin, but in you, I have found a true grandfather. I will continue preaching your message everywhere.”

In the same service was Auma Linda Agnes, Woman Member of Parliament for Lira District and daughter to Oyite Ojok, a former military commander in Milton Obote’s government.

Speaking shortly after the service, President Museveni acknowledged the presence of both Dr Aate and Ms Auma, stating that it is the good ideology of the NRM that allows them to work with people they never agreed with.

“My daughter Auma Linda has been RDC and is working with me. We have been able to work together because I have no debt with her father,” Museveni said.

The president said that the NRM’s tolerance is the reason Ugandans are not refugees in the world.

“There are no Ugandan refugees, they are all here. Ugandans are out there abusing me, telling lies about me, coming to town to abuse me but they are here because we are so willing to work even with those that are our enemies,” he said.
