The State House Anticorruption Unit in collaboration with Uganda Police Force has impounded Hoima District Road construction equipment over alleged misuse.

According to the Unit, headed by Col Edith Nakalema, the government equipment had been hired out to a private farmer in Kaduku village, Kiryandongo district.

‘This is contrary to Government regulations,’ the unit said in a short statement on Friday, adding that the equipment is currently held at Kaduku Police station, Kiryandongo district.

In June 2017, President Museveni commissioned the road equipment worth more than sh500b that was distributed to 121 districts in Uganda.

Each district received a full unit of equipment consisting of one motor grader, one wheel loader, one vibro roller, one water bowser and two dump trucks. Each unit was valued at sh2.7b.

The 1,151 pieces of road construction equipment were imported from Japan using a loan from the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation.

However, some reports recently said some of the districts are ill-equipped to maximally utilize the equipment to maintain roads due to insufficient provisions of fuel, manpower and other requirements.
