Victoria University as Vice Chancellor Dr. Lawrence Muganga, has vehemently dispelled allegations linking him to espionage, saying it would be a waste of time to redirect his 28 years of education into spying.

Dr.Muganga came to the media recently when he was arrested inhumanly by operatives of Military Intelligence from his office at Jinja Road.

The UPDF communications office later announced that Dr.Muganga, a Ugandan of Rwandan origin faced charges espionage and illegal stay in Uganda.

The army spokesperson Brig Flavia Byekwaso made the revelation after a video of Muganga’s arrest circulated widely on internet, prompting the elite to condemn the manner in which Military Intelligence conducted the arrest.

A day after his arrest as speculation made rounds how Dr Muganga, a PHD holder from Canada would be charged in Court, he was released at 10pm.

Muganga has since told the nation that until today he doesn’t understand why he was viciously arrested.

Appearing on NTV a week after the incident, Dr Muganga admitted he is a citizen in three countries; Uganda, Rwanda and Canada.

“I was born in Butaleja in 1976 and my parents were pastoralists who later moved to Masaka,” He said.

Muganga speaks fluent local language- Luganda.

He explained that he travelled to Rwanda in 2004 at the invitation of his sister to look for a job and luckily enough he was employed as an internal auditor in Rwanda Revenue Authority before he chanced on another opportunity in Canada where he studied his PHD.

He lived in Canada for 16 years and applied for citizenship which was granted by Canadian government.

Dr. Muganga said he returned to Uganda to revolutionaries the education sector since he has gathered enough skills and knowledge. He is an analyst and a researcher.

Dr. Muganga says, i was hired by Ruparelia Group as the Vice Chancellor of Victoria University.

Pressed on by the viewers and the moderator Patrick Kamara, as why security would zero on the person of Lawrence Muganga, he said that remains unaware of his crimes.

“I don’t know anything. I wish I knew,” he said.

Reminded that UPDF alleged he was arrested over espionage, Muganga scoffed at the claims wondering why he would waste 28 years of amassing knowledge to venture into spying.

His arrest came at a time Uganda and Rwanda continue to share poor relations as neighbours with both nations trading spying claims.
