Delivering this year’s state of the Nation address in Kampala at Serena, he said that opposition leaders who are not helping their communities should stop their excuses of not being in a Government.

The president added that most of the work he has done for Uganda, he did it when he was in opposition still.

“These days, I hear people going around wasting time DP! ..UPC! I tell this no¦..DP without Museveni and UPC as well…., because Museveni was also a DP member and a UPC member for few months respectively,” he said.

He also said that his efforts was launched when he was 21 and in DP (Opposition) in his community in Kiruhura adding that people there are no longer living in grass thatched houses.

According to the president, Ugandan Opposition leaders have an even smoother environment to help their people compared to his time.

“If you claim to belong to Opposition and you don’t care about the income of your people, you are nothing,” he said.

“You don’t have to wait to be in government to help your people. I helped my people when I was in DP and by then UPC was dangerous. It was not like now when you can abuse, shout and put your legs up.”

“Don’t tell me that because you are not in NRM you cannot help your people. That’s rubbish. I tell you that on good authority. I have worked most of my life in opposition. Its only recently when I have been on this side.”

Museveni expressed resolve to help Uganda into the middle income status, which he said will be achieved through import substitution and export promotion.
