CAA Clarifies on Fire Incident at Entebbe International Airport

The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority [CAA] has publicly clarified on the fire incident that broke out in the ceiling of the passenger Terminal Building at Entebbe International Airport (Departures area) leading to smoke in the Passenger Waiting Lounges near gate 2A and 2B at about 3:00 pm this afternoon, According to Mr, Vianney Mpungu Lugya, the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority Spokesman.

Mr. Lugya said that, Passenger operations have since resumed. The incident did not lead to any casualties. The source and cause of the fire is being investigated. Inconveniences caused by the incident to the departing passengers and other users of Entebbe International Airport are highly regretted.

He said that, Entebbe International Airport has detailed protocols and safety procedures which meet international- accepted standards in case of accidents . UCAA carries routine safety evacuation exercises to ensure that there is no loss of lives at the airport in case of an accident .

Entebbe Airport has continued to score highly as one of the safest international airports in the world =given that it is surrounded by lake Victoria and the preparedness of the UCAA staff to deal with emergencies .
