Ronald Kayizi, Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s court has granted bail to Noah Mitala, popularly known as Noah Mutwe, the personal bodyguard of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine).

Mutwe has spent over 60 days on remand at Luzira prison on charges related to inciting violence and hate speech. The magistrate released Mutwe on a Shs 5 million cash bail, while each of his sureties was bonded for Shs 50 million non-cash.

As part of the bail conditions, Mutwe is barred from leaving the country without court permission. Mutwe is jointly charged with Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Twiine Charles under the Computer Misuse Act.

Twiine was previously granted bail last month. According to prosecutors, the duo allegedly exchanged messages via computer networks between January 2024 and May 2025, in which they called for the assassination of President Yoweri Museveni and his son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, using pavers, in what authorities describe as politically motivated threats.

Prosecution further alleges that Twiine, using digital platforms, spread offensive content aimed at several senior government officials.

The accusations include;

  • Referring to speaker of parliament Anita Among as “a rotten human being” and the “chief sponsor” of violence in Bukedea district
  • Accusing deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa of being a money launderer, fraudster, and masquerader.
  • Referring to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces, as “a fat pig and a crook.”
  • Calling General James Birungi “a killer and a crook.”
  • Alleging that the Bahima ethnic group are “killers”—a statement prosecutors say could incite ethnic hostility.

Both Mutwe and Twiine deny all charges and insist on their innocence. Following the court ruling, National Unity Platform (NUP) secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya criticised the Shs 5 million bail amount imposed on Mutwe, calling it “excessively high” and unfair to a party member already under political and legal pressure.
