CNOOC Uganda Limited, a key player in the country’s oil and gas sector, has celebrated the graduation of 100 individuals who completed a specialized training program designed to boost local talent in the engineering and construction fields.
The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) program, which concluded on Sept. 11, saw participants gain internationally recognized certifications. The graduates, including students and instructors from 12 vocational training institutions, were trained in electrical maintenance, electrical installation, pipefitting, scaffolding, and rigging.
The two-month program was delivered by Zetta Energy Ltd. in collaboration with the Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI). It combined theoretical instruction with practical sessions and a strong focus on occupational health and safety.
Speaking at the ceremony, CNOOC’s National Content Manager, Eric Jumba, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to developing Uganda’s skilled workforce to meet both local and global industry demands.
One graduate, Komurubuga Mathew, an instructor at St. Simon Vocational Training Institute in Hoima, expressed gratitude for the opportunity. He noted that the sponsorship from CNOOC allowed him to obtain international certification in rigging, which he could not have afforded on his own.
This training is part of CNOOC Uganda Limited’s broader efforts to invest in the community. The company has also funded scholarships, provided support to health centers, and implemented livelihood restoration projects in the Albertine region and across the country.
