His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, the Deputy Mufti, represented His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, as the chief celebrant at the end-of-year Thanksgiving ceremony organized by the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC). The event took place on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the NWSC headquarters in Bugolobi, Kampala.
Sheikh Waiswa delivered an inspiring sermon to a large and attentive audience, which included NWSC staff and senior officials such as Prof. Dr. Badru Kiggundu, the Board Chairman, Dr. Silver Mugisha, the Managing Director, and other members of the leadership team.
Also in attendance were members of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) National Management Committee, including His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Hafidh Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, the Second Deputy Mufti; Hon. Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma, Deputy Secretary General in charge of Administration and Finance; Sheikh Muhammad Murshid Luwemba, Secretary for Da’wah (Islamic Propagation); and Prince Harunah Musa Mawanda, Private Secretary to the Mufti.
In his sermon, Sheikh Waiswa emphasized the importance of staying spiritually alert and consistently expressing gratitude to Almighty God, as this is essential for living a righteous life. He shared verses from the Holy Qur’an and teachings from the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), aligning them with the theme of the day.
Sheikh Waiswa also spoke about stewardship, leadership, and unity, referencing Qur’anic verses that highlight water as a precious gift from God, which must be preserved to continue benefiting humanity.
Deputy Mufti made a heartfelt plea to the NWSC Board, urging them to consider providing water services for free or at subsidized rates to places of worship.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Bukenya offered special prayers for the NWSC staff, asking God to bless them with wisdom, courage, and teamwork in fulfilling their duties. Prof. Dr. Kiggundu and Dr. Mugisha, in their remarks, explained the high costs involved in providing water services, such as the expenses for chemicals, equipment, and salaries for technical personnel.
They also gave an overview of the corporation’s operations to help the audience better understand its challenges and achievements.
