Gen Salim Saleh has called Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba for talks after the former Land Forces Commander blasted the ruling NRM party as “probably the most reactionary organization in the country” and expressed intentions of holding talks with the opposition leader, Dr. Kizza Besigye.
NRM insiders told The Homeland Newspaper that Muhoozi’s tweets were the “highest form of provocation” and that several party bigwigs had appealed to the President to restrain the former special forces commander as the launch of an opposition party or partnership with Besigye would cause cracks in the ruling organization.
“I’m happy to announce that my great uncle, Afande Salim Saleh, has invited me to his home for a debate,” said Muhoozi on Monday evening after blasting NRM on Twitter.
“I will go there and learn from him (Saleh). I shall communicate to you all after that,” he added without providing specifics about the location and agenda of the meeting.
Muhoozi looks up to Gen Saleh, a battle-hardened bush war veteran commander.
It remains unclear whether Museveni asked Saleh to speak to Muhoozi or if it was the former army commander’s initiative.
Gen Saleh was the chief guest at the ceremony held at the army general headquarters in Bombo to decorate Muhoozi as a full-star general.
At the event, Saleh spoke fondly of Muhoozi, saying he had worked so hard to build a formidable special force of UPDF.
However, by saying he would update his fans after meeting Saleh, Muhoozi appears determined to fight on in his quest to change the status quo.
Gen Saleh is widely respected in the Museveni family due to his closeness to the president and his heroic military background.
