The Kamuli woman member of Parliament also former speaker, Rebecca Kadaga has declared that she will contest for Speakership of the 11th Parliament as an independent candidate following her rejection by the CEC organ of the NRM Party whom she accuses of fighting her ambitions.
on Sunday evening Kadaga addressed the press conference at Hotel Africana and stressed her energy to contest as an independent candidate for the speakership position come rain come shine.
Kadaga said that she has been several been fought by the party which this Sunday opted not to give her the party ticket.
“I have therefore decided to contest.” Kadaga said
Kadaga said that over time, there has been ”tremendous state interference, intimidation and funding opponents for the position of Vice-Chair.”
Kadaga also indicated that “I was not given an opportunity to present myself. The major reason is speaking on behalf of the ordinary people of Uganda.
Kadaga calls upon all people across the country to call their representatives, ask them to elect her speaker of Parliament.
“As per the constitution, the Position of the women has been scrapped. I am therefore asking the people of Uganda to ask their representatives to elect me.” Kadaga said.
Kadaga was earlier today rejected by the NRM Central Executive Committee for contesting as Speaker of Parliament on the NRM ticket. The party endorsed former Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah.
