The minister of Education, Ms. Janet Kataaha Museveni has said the new SAWA bag technology will provide access to safe and clean water for people at grass root levels.
“The SAWA bag water purification system provides an appropriate solution for safe and clean water for our people especially those at the grassroots where the majority of our people live. The SAWA bag’s unique product design utilizes a plastic formulation which harnesses ultraviolet sunrays to penetrate the water thus deactivating dangerous pathogens” she said.
Ms. Museveni made the remarks while launching the 4 life SAWA safe water for Uganda program at St Luke Church of Uganda primary school playgrounds in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso district on Friday.
The deputy head of the mission Embassy of Denmark Mr. Henrik Jespersen said SAWA bags and jerrycan provide clean water in hard-to-reach areas through a very stable yet sophisticated technology.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of 4life solutions Jonas Pilgaard said the SAWA bag was invented five years ago in the Adjumani district.
“We have invested more than USD 6 million (Shs 22 bn) in developing this solution, we have tested it in the communities and constantly tried to make it better, we have adjusted it to fit the daily use for users,” he said.

The Minister of State for Water Ms. Aisha Sekindi said access to safe water especially for drinking purposes remains a challenge to many of our less privileged communities in the country.
