Ugandan police are investigating the death of a 25-year-old woman, Caroline Nalubwama, who died after allegedly sustaining serious injuries at the home of city socialite Bryan Kirumira, popularly known as Bryan White, in Kyamula, Makindye Division, Kampala.
Police said Nalubwama was taken to Kiruddu Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
“Preliminary information indicates that the deceased was at the home of Mr Bryan Kirumira alias Bryan White when the incident occurred,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, deputy police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan.
“She was later rushed to Kiruddu Hospital where she was pronounced dead.”
Detectives examined the crime scene, collected exhibits, and transferred the body to City Mortuary Mulago for a post-mortem examination.
Police said Kirumira, who also sustained injuries, is receiving medical treatment and has recorded a statement to assist the investigation.
“Efforts are underway to retrieve CCTV footage and interview additional witnesses to piece together the actual sequence of events,” Owoyesigyire said, adding that updates would be provided once substantial progress is made.
Bryan White, 38, rose to fame in 2017 after launching a charity foundation that attracted young followers and celebrities through cash giveaways and public shows of wealth. He later faced scrutiny over allegations of sexual abuse and human trafficking.
In 2021, Uganda’s Parliament’s Human Rights Committee recommended his arrest over claims that he had exploited a 17-year-old girl, though no conviction followed. White has since kept a low profile until the latest incident brought him back into the public eye.
Uganda continues to grapple with high homicide rates despite overall crime declining. According to the Uganda Police Force’s 2024 Annual Crime Report, at least 4,329 homicide cases were recorded in 2024 — roughly 12 killings per day.
Although the overall number of criminal cases dropped by 4.1 percent last year, police say most killings stem from domestic violence, mob justice, and land disputes.
Investigators visited the scene, collected several pieces of evidence, and later transferred Nalubwama’s body to City Mortuary Mulago for a post-mortem examination.
Police further confirmed that the suspect, who also sustained injuries during the alleged incident, is currently receiving medical treatment and has recorded a statement to assist with inquiries. “We are working to obtain CCTV footage and interview more witnesses to reconstruct the sequence of events. Further details will be shared as the investigation progresses,” Owoyesigyire added.
