Security forces have maintained a strong presence in Sembabule District ahead of the campaign events of National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.

Security personnel have been stationed along major routes leading to Sembabule Town Council, where Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine is expected to hold his main campaign rally.

Goretti Namugga, the Member of Parliament for Mawogola County and a key NUP coordinator in Sembabule claims that the extensive deployment is meant to “create unnecessary tension” and discourage people from attending Kyagulanyi’s rally.

However, Namugga noted that their campaign coordination teams are “working closely with higher security authorities” to ensure that all NUP campaign activities go on as scheduled.

Twaha Kasirye, the Greater Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson, refuted claims that the security presence is intended to intimidate Kyagulanyi’s supporters. He explained that the deployment’s purpose is to maintain law and order in the district.

Kasirye urged residents and political actors “to cooperate with security officers to prevent any incidents,” emphasizing that the joint operation should not deter anyone from engaging in lawful activities. He further stated that, apart from campaign events, “other economic activities and services should continue without disruption.”
