The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has released provisional registration figures for the 2025 examinations, showing a notable increase in candidate numbers compared to the previous year. According to Dan Odongo, Executive Director of UNEB, “the total candidature stands at 1,416,307 candidates, representing a 6.9% increase from last year’s 1,319,139 candidates.”
The increase is evident across all levels, with Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) seeing a 2.51% rise, Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) a 12.07% increase, and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) a 14.69% surge. Odongo noted that these numbers reflect the growing demand for education in Uganda.

As required by law, schools will be expected to display the register of candidates at the school notice board 60 days before the examinations commence. This will enable candidates and interested parties to verify the status of registration and the accuracy of the biodata submitted.
The UNEB’s commitment to ensuring the integrity and transparency of the examination process is evident in its efforts to engage with schools and candidates. As Odongo emphasized, “it is essential for schools to comply with this requirement to avoid any issues during the examination period.”
With the examinations approaching, UNEB urges candidates to stay focused and prepared, while also reminding schools of their responsibility to ensure that all registered candidates are properly accounted for. The board is set to communicate the dates for the display of candidate registers, and schools are expected to adhere to these guidelines.
