Frank Baine the Uganda Prisons Spokesperson confirmed that out of the seven hundred one(701) Corona Virus cases that were registered in different prisons around the country, fifty seven(57) of these have escaped from their isolation centres and are busy spreading the virus into the community.

Addressing the media at the media Center in Kampala yesterday 30th September,Baine said that although they registered 437 recovered COVID-19 cases, they do not have control over the 57 escapees since 15 staff members and seven family members have so far been infected with the virus due to interaction with the prisoners that escaped with the virus.

He called upon all members of the public to be vigilant and report anyone they suspect to have escaped from prison and is now putting the community at risk of mass spreading of COVID-19.
