The outgoing Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has been declared winner in the Nairobi gubernatorial race.

Sakaja garnered 699, 392 votes while his close rival Polycarp Igathe got 573, 516 votes.

Sakaja vied for the seat on a UDA ticket while Igathe contested on a Jubilee party ticket.

Speaking after receiving his certificate from Nairobi County Returning Officer, Albert Gogo, Sakaja vowed to fulfil his campaign promises.

“I want to thank the people of Nairobi for believing in me and giving me this mandate to serve as Governor of Nairobi. I want to the people of Nairobi that you are in safe hands,” he said

Sakaja was accompanied by his running mate James Muchiri.
