Lukwago appoints Doreen Nyanjura,sacks his deputy Kanyike

Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has sacked his deputy Sarah Kanyike and appointed Doreen Nyanjura as her replacement.

Mr Lukwago had given Ms Kanyike up to today, Thursday, 18 June 2020, to declare her stand on whether she was accepting the position of director gender, community service and production at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to which she has been nominated by President Museveni.

However, the day reached without Ms Kanyike declaring her stand.

As a result, Mr Lukwago announced Ms Nyajura in the new position at a press conference in Kampala. Ms Nyajura is the Makerere University female councillor.

According to the KCCA Act, the Lord Mayor appoints his deputy and the council simply approves his choice.

Lukwago had pleaded with Ms Kanyike to reject the Museveni nomination for the position.

Ms Kanyike on Wednesday said that she is still the official deputy Lord Mayor of KCCA. “As far as I am concerned, I am still the deputy Lord Mayor of Kampala and councillor for Makindye East. I am also reading from social media that I was appointed somewhere. There is no official communication,” Ms Kanyike said.
