Bugerere has launched a two-week Bulungibwansi campaign ahead of the Kabaka of Buganda’s 32nd Coronation Anniversary, with leaders prioritising community service, cultural preservation, entrepreneurship and improved livelihoods.

The activities, approved during the first Ssaza Council meeting of the new financial year, will be held in Ssabagabo Sub-county, Kayunga District, ahead of the main coronation celebrations on 30 July 2026.

Speaking after the council meeting, the Second Deputy Ssaza Chief and Minister for Bulungibwansi, Patrick Mugerwa, said this year’s programme is designed to leave a lasting social and economic impact on communities.

“Our focus is to ensure that the Kabaka’s coronation is celebrated through meaningful community service. We shall carry out sensitisation on the history of Buganda, teach young people about Buganda’s cultural norms and values, promote modern agriculture, empower people with entrepreneurship skills, and organise activities that directly improve livelihoods,” Mugerwa said.

He explained that the entrepreneurship sessions will equip youth and women with practical business skills, encourage innovation and self-employment, and promote a savings culture to improve household incomes.

The programme will also feature a free medical camp, where residents will receive treatment and health education, alongside an Ekyoto session aimed at promoting traditional justice and educating communities on Buganda’s cultural institutions.

“Health is a key pillar of development. Through the medical camp, we want people to receive treatment and health education, while the Ekyoto will help preserve our cultural systems of resolving disputes and strengthening harmony in our communities,” Mugerwa added.

Bugerere County Chief Sam Ssemugooma urged leaders at all levels to mobilise residents to participate in the activities.

“The Kabaka has consistently encouraged his subjects to embrace Bulungibwansi through practical action. We therefore expect every leader to mobilise their communities to participate fully because these programmes improve people’s welfare and strengthen our Kingdom,” Ssemugooma said.

He noted that the annual coronation celebrations are not only a cultural event but also an opportunity to promote unity, patriotism and sustainable socio-economic development.

Leaders expect the two-week programme to bring together cultural leaders, local government officials, health workers, entrepreneurs, farmers, youth and residents from across Bugerere. Besides celebrating the Kabaka’s 32nd Coronation Anniversary, the activities are expected to enhance public health, preserve Buganda’s cultural heritage, promote entrepreneurship and modern agriculture, and strengthen community cohesion.
