The former District Engineer of Kamuli District Local Government, Mufumba Daniel, has been remanded to custody after being charged with abuse of office and causing financial loss to the tune of over UGX 600 million.
Mufumba, who had been on the run, was arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), working in collaboration with Uganda Police and the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). He joins his co-accused, Mukiibi Nasser, the former Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), and Kifuuse Alex, the former Chief Finance Officer (CFO), who were earlier charged in the same matter.
Court documents indicate that between May and June 2025, the trio, while holding their respective positions in Kamuli District, allegedly abused their authority by irregularly processing and approving payments to various suppliers. The payments, related to the rehabilitation of the Nawanyago-Kisozi Road, included fuel, construction materials, diversion and traffic control signs, allowances and other items.
Investigations allege that the accused embezzled funds through payments to companies such as Raven Knights Ltd and Total Uganda Limited. Mufumba Daniel is further accused of authorising payments to himself as one of the suppliers.
The case highlights ongoing efforts to curb corruption in local government procurement and infrastructure projects. The Anti-Corruption Court remanded Mufumba until July 10, 2026, as investigations continue.
This development comes amid heightened scrutiny of public fund management, with authorities reiterating their commitment to holding accountable those entrusted with government resources. The alleged irregularities are said to have caused significant financial loss to the district and undermined critical road infrastructure works meant to benefit local communities.
The matter is expected to return to court for further mention as prosecution prepares its case.
