The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the private sector by enhancing the production and use of high-quality official statistics to support evidence-based planning, investment decisions, industrial development, and sustainable economic growth.

The commitment was reiterated during a visit by a UBOS delegation to Roofings Limited’s manufacturing facility at the Kampala Industrial and Business Park in Namanve.

The delegation, led by UBOS Deputy Executive Director Dr. Vincent F. Ssenono on behalf of the Executive Director and Chief Statistician of Uganda, Dr. Chris N. Mukiza, was received by Roofings Limited’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Dr. Martin F. Kyeyune.

During the engagement, Dr. Kyeyune briefed the UBOS team on the company’s history, investment journey, manufacturing operations, and contribution to Uganda’s economic development.

The meeting provided a platform for both institutions to explore opportunities for closer collaboration in the production and utilization of official statistics to support industrial planning, export development, investment decisions, and business growth.

Discussions also focused on the role of reliable data in improving productivity, enhancing competitiveness, and accelerating Uganda’s industrial transformation.

Roofings Limited highlighted its remarkable growth from an initial investment of US$2 million in 1994 to a company now valued at more than US$500 million. The manufacturer also showcased its continued investments in value addition, expanded production capacity, and export-oriented manufacturing, which have positioned it among the leading steel producers in East and Central Africa.

Both UBOS and Roofings acknowledged the critical role of official statistics in driving business growth and national development. Roofings expressed interest in strengthening collaboration with UBOS in areas including trade statistics, industrial production data, export market intelligence, and sector performance indicators.

According to the company, closer cooperation with Uganda’s national statistics agency will provide access to credible, reliable, and timely data needed for strategic planning, investment decisions, production planning, market expansion, and identifying new export opportunities while reducing dependence on unverified information

UBOS reaffirmed its commitment to producing high-quality, reliable, and timely official statistics that meet the information needs of government, the private sector, development partners, and the public.

The Bureau also emphasized that stronger partnerships with industry players are essential for enhancing Uganda’s National Statistical System and promoting the production and use of demand-driven official statistics to support evidence-based decision-making.

Roofings Group Chief Executive Officer Mr. Sheikh Arif said the engagement had further strengthened the relationship between the two institutions and reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting data-driven decision-making as a catalyst for industrial growth, innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable economic development.
