The Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Speaker Jacob Oboth-Oboth, has made a cash contribution of Shs. 10 million to boost AMUS College School ahead of their participation in the CAF African Schools Football Championship in Kigali, Rwanda.
Represented by Hon. Aogon Silas (MP, Kumi Municipality), the speaker officially flagged off the teams from the School to Kigali, Rwanda, where the CAF African Schools Football Championship kicks off this week. AMUS College School are the sole Uganda representatives at he championship.
The official send-off took place on Friday evening at the steps of Parliament and was followed by a civic exercise on Saturday where the student-athletes, also the reigning national CAF U15 champions in both the Boys and Girls categories, joined parliamentary leadership and staff to sweep the areas surrounding the August House in observance of National Cleaning Day.
Equipped with brooms, the players and school officials actively led by example, clearing the parliamentary precincts to highlight the connection between sports discipline, environmental cleanliness, and national responsibility.
On Friday evening, the delegation assembled in front Parliament for the official flag-off ceremony. Delivering the main address on behalf of Rt. Hon. Speaker Oboth-Oboth, Hon. Hon. Aogon commended AMUS College School for demonstrating patriotism both on and off the field.
“To qualify to represent your country on a continental stage is not an ordinary accomplishment. It is a privilege, but more importantly, it is a responsibility. You will be carrying the Ugandan flag, and millions of Ugandans will be looking to you with pride and hope,” the Speaker’s speech stated.
“You have already made us proud by winning the national title and by cleaning our Parliament today. Now go and conquer East and Central Africa,” he added.
The Speaker commended the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), along with the management, teachers, and parents of AMUS College School, for their investment in youth development.
With clean hands, clean hearts, and official parliamentary backing, the AMUS College delegation departed for Rwanda to compete for the continental crown.
