Victoria University’s 10th graduation ceremony is under way at Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo, where graduands, parents, guardians, academic staff and invited guests have gathered to mark the end of years of study.
The two-day ceremony runs today, Monday, and tomorrow under the theme “The Future Is Here”. Today’s session covers graduands from the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Health Sciences. Tomorrow’s session will cover the Faculty of Business and Management and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The university said ahead of the event that it would graduate about 2,500 students across the two days.
Julius Bukyana, the university’s corporate and public relations manager, said earlier that this year’s ceremony would focus on how technology and artificial intelligence are changing education and the workplace. He said the nature of work was changing and universities needed to give students practical skills and the ability to adapt as new tools are adopted across industries.
University officials have said the institution’s model combines classroom study with workplace placements, an approach they say is meant to prepare graduates for jobs in Uganda and abroad.
Jay Sakaria, vice chairperson of the university council, and Meera Ruparelia, a member of the board of directors, are representing businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, chairman of the Ruparelia Group, which owns the university.
Vice Chancellor Prof Lawrence Muganga thanked Dr Ruparelia and the Ruparelia Group for supporting the institution’s growth.
Among those graduating is Linda Husinah, the Miss Elite Uganda 2023/24.
The graduation comes days after the National Council for Higher Education’s revised institutional ranking placed Victoria University second in the country with 87.4 points, behind Makerere University.
Victoria University was established in 2013 and is a chartered private university. Its main campus is at Victoria Towers on Jinja Road in Kampala. The university held its ninth graduation at the same venue in October 2025.
