By Homeland Media Team,

The Uganda Hippos smashed Tunisia on Monday evening to Storm the U20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Mauritania. Derrick Kakooza’s outstanding performance against Tunisia saw him scoring a hat trick to earn a spot in the finals scheduled to take place on March 6th, 2021.

The Hippos scored their first goal in the fourth minute through forward Richard Basangwa. Kakooza doubled the lead in the 36th minute with good finishing from Basangwa’s assist. Tunisia got a consolation goal in the 38th minute through defender Adam Banlamie following a well-taken corner kick by Chiheb Labidu.

Uganda Hippos returned for the second half rejuvenated. Derrick Kakooza netted the Hippos 3rd goal in the 50th minute with a header before he sealed the victory in the 73rd minute. Kakooza’s hat trick makes him the top scorer of the tournament with five goals.

The win sends Uganda to the first-ever AFCON final in the youth championship. Uganda is scheduled to face Ghana in the finals, which eliminated Gambia.
