The Controversial City Lawyer Male Mabirizi is all smiles after a court order authorized a monetary pay to him regarding his case against Makerere University and National Unity Platform (NUP) leader, Robert Kyagulanyi.

Mengo Magistrates Court ordered Makerere University to pay lawyer Hassan Male Mabirizi a total of Shs. 3 million, as damages for failure to provide him with information he had requested from the university. weds

The court ruled that the University’s failure to furnish Mabirizi with Hon Robert Kyagulanyi’s certified copies of Application, Bio-data forms and Academic Transcript was illegal and in violation of the Access to Information Act of 2005.

Mabirizi had applied for this information on 21st August 2020 and expected it by 11 December 2020.

In her ruling, Mengo Chief Magistrate Esther Nasambu noted that she couldn’t overlook some of the illegalities on the side of the university.

She noted that the university as public body is expected to uphold efficiently, transparency, effectiveness and accountability.

Although Mabirizi had asked for 5 million shillings as General aggravated and exemplary damages, court awarded him 3 million Shillings with taxed costs for the application.
