A group of ill-fated Express FC fans want George Ssimwogerere sacked after the club failed to reach the finals of the Uganda Cup.

Express FC were favorites to lift the Uganda Cup this season after reaching the last four with three sides that are rookies in the second most prestigious competition in the country.

They took an early lead at Wankulukuku through John Revita but conceded late on against Bright Stars to tie on aggregate and eventually lose 4-3 on penalties.

Irate fans immediately called for Ssimwogerere’s resignation at the final whistle with some stepping on the pitch, throwing all kind of insults at their former captain.

Others did try assaulting him until police swung in forcing the tactician to take refuge in one of the rooms outside of the stadium.

One police officer was left bleeding in the scuffle.

Meanwhile, other fans were also unhappy with the players who missed the penalties with many heard shouting all kind of insults at Davis Mayanja.

Ssimwogerere joined the club two games into the second round of the league replacing Kefa Kisala who was axed after the 2-0 defeat to Police at Wankulukuku.

Ssimwogerere stats at Express so far

  • League: Wins 5, Draws 4, Loss 4
  • Uganda Cup – Played 4 Games, W 1, 3 Draws
  • Note: All Cup games not won in 90 are regarded as draws
