Two senior officers of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Major General Don William Nabasa and Brigadier General Johnson Namanya Abaho, are being held at the Kasenyi military facility following orders reportedly issued by Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The development, which emerged on Friday, March 27, 2026, points to a fresh phase of internal disciplinary action within the army’s top ranks. UPDF authorities have yet to issue an official statement clarifying the reasons for the officers’ detention or outlining any formal charges.

However, sources familiar with the situation suggest the move is part of broader efforts to tighten discipline and address possible administrative or performance-related concerns within various units.

Major General Don William Nabasa currently serves as the UPDF’s Joint Staff for Policy and Strategy, a role he assumed on January 3, 2025. Prior to this, he commanded the Third Infantry Division based in Moroto. He has also served as Commander of the UPDF Military Police from October 2021 and previously led the Ugandan contingent under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

Earlier in his career, Nabasa headed the Special Forces Command (SFC), an elite unit tasked with protecting the President, key cultural leaders, strategic national assets, and oil infrastructure. He took over leadership of the SFC in January 2017, succeeding Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who had been appointed Senior Presidential Adviser on military affairs.
