President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has said Buganda region is the biggest beneficiary of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and anybody who doesn’t see this is its biggest enemy.

Museveni made the remarks while meeting the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Buganda Parliamentary Caucus at State House, Entebbe. During the meeting, Museveni guided the caucus on several issues related to service delivery and development in Buganda and across the country.

“You, the new leaders, need to defend the legitimate interests of the people of Uganda and Buganda because Buganda is the major beneficiary of the NRM revolution, and anybody who does not see that is an enemy of Buganda,” he said.

Museveni noted that because of the peace brought by the NRM government, a lot of development, including good roads, industries, among others, has been achieved in Buganda and Uganda in general.

Museveni also thanked NRM MPs from the Buganda region for the good work of sensitizing the masses and monitoring government programs. He tasked the leaders to now put their main focus on the household income of Ugandans.

“Strategically, Buganda is the direct beneficiary of NRM, so if all the people get involved in creating wealth, Uganda will be the most developed country in the world,” Museveni said.

He further noted that land fragmentation remains one of the biggest challenges facing the region and the country at large. Robert Migadde Ndugwa, chairperson of the NRM Buganda Parliamentary group and the MP for Buvuma County, presented the group’s memorandum of understanding (MoU) and thanked Museveni for his exceptional leadership steering Uganda’s development forward.

He noted that the group has been moving in the region at the constituency level to respond to community concerns and monitor government programs. The deputy secretary general of the NRM, Rose Namayanja, thanked Museveni for his guidance on the different areas of development and service delivery.

She thanked the group for the unity and commitment, further asking them to work harder for the people and deliver success for the NRM party in the region. The meeting between Museveni and Buganda MPs from his party comes at a particularly perilous time when the NRM is fighting to get back the region it lost in the 2026 general election.

NRM MPs have been moving around Buganda, rallying people to support Museveni and the party again. In their campaign dubbed Buganda for Museveni, the MPs and ministers have been telling people in public, wherever they have gone, that voting against the NRM, which is still in leadership, will affect service delivery.

In the last election, Museveni, for the first time, was defeated in most parts of Buganda by the opposition National Unity Platform candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, aka Bobi Wine. Also, of the 57 MPs that belong to NUP, 55 come from Buganda region.
