The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is a government agency formed by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics Act, 1998 mandated to coordinate, monitor and supervise Uganda’s National Statistical System. Its scope of work includes conducting a national population census and it is governed by a seven-person board of directors.

Following the expiration of the tenure of the previous UBOS board members, the cabinet has today 23rd September appointed a new team led by Dr. Albert Byamugisha. Dr. Byamugisha is a PhD holder in Monitoring and Evaluation from Kobe University in Japan, a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics and Applied Economics from Makerere University and a Masters’ Degree in Statistics from The University Sheffield, UK. He is the brains behind the design and implementation of a government country wide monitoring and reporting system that provides semi-annual and annual reports to Cabinet on government of Uganda’s sector performance and spending.

The cabinet also agreed to host the United Nations World Tourism 2020 celebrations slated to take place in the areas of Kabarole, Karukuzi and Fortportal districts slated to take place on the 27th September 2020. The new board members include Dr. Chris Ndatira Mukiza. Mr. Mulengani Bernard Dr.Joseph Muvawala, Dr. Jacob Opolot, Ms. Rosettte Nakavuma and Dr. Wamala Robert.
