There was drama at All Saints Cathedral Nakasero church on Tuesday morning after relatives of the late Bob Kasango from Tororo stormed the church and grabbed the coffin containing his remains insisting they wanted him buried at his ancestral home.
Kasango’s relatives had camped outside the church as prayers for the controversial lawyer went on inside the building.
They stormed the A-Plus funeral van as the pallbearers tried to put the casket inside the van after service and loaded it on a waiting truck insisting, they wanted him buried in Tororo.
Relatives from the side of Kasongo’s wife Nice Bitarabeho Kasango and eldest son Samora Paul Kasango tried to insist but they were shoved aside by the stronger team from Kasango’s family. They grabbed the coffin and dumped it on a pickup before they sped off insisting, they wanted him buried in Tororo and not Tooro.
However, police intervened, pursued the pickup, intercepted it, removed the body and handed it back to his wife’s family.
The parents wanted him buried at his ancestral home in Tororo district, while the widow and his children wanted him buried in Fort portal, where he has a farm.
Kasango died on Saturday night at the Luzira Prison due to heart complication, while serving a 16-year jail term for fraud and forgery among others after he was found guilty by the Anti-Corruption Court in December 2018.
Kasango is survived by a widow and three children including; Samora Kasango, 19, Stephie Kasango, 17, and Evanna Kasango, 13.
