The Electoral Commission has warned the public against using an unauthorized website purporting to provide voter registration details, even as it confirmed the release of the National Voters’ Register ahead of the 2026 General Elections.
The Commission cautioned that the website www.registry.ugtally.com is not affiliated with the Electoral Commission and may expose users to misleading information or misuse of personal data. Voters have been advised to rely strictly on official Electoral Commission platforms to verify their registration particulars.
At the same time, the Commission announced that the National Voters’ Register is ready for use in the 2026 polls and urged candidates to mobilize registered voters as the country enters the final phase of the campaign period.
The register contains the names of 21,681,491 registered voters, organized alphabetically by surname at 50,739 polling stations across the country.
According to the Commission, the register is intended to help candidates and their agents ensure that only eligible voters cast ballots and only at the polling stations where they are registered.
Electoral Commission Chairperson Simon Byabakama Mugenyi said the issuance of the register should allay concerns about election preparedness.
“This issuance should put to rest any concern among stakeholders about the readiness of the National Voters’ Register for the 2026 General Elections. The Commission remains unwavering in its commitment to delivering free, fair, credible and transparent elections in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of Uganda,” Byabakama said.
The Commission clarified that the photo-bearing voters’ register will be the sole basis for voting, and that any person whose particulars and photograph appear on the register will be allowed to vote at their designated polling station, even without a National Identity Card.
Soft copies of the National Voters’ Register have already been issued to presidential candidates in line with Section 19 of the Electoral Commission Act.
Hard copies of the photo-bearing register will also be issued to each presidential candidate, while constituency voters’ registers are available to other political parties and candidates upon application and payment of the prescribed fees.
The Commission also reported progress in logistical preparations for polling day. It has completed packing generic election materials, including pens, indelible ink markers, forms and tamper-proof envelopes.
Dispatch of transparent ballot boxes, solar lamps and other equipment to districts and cities has already commenced, while packing of ballot papers and polling-station-specific voters’ registers is ongoing.
Reiterating the warning on the unauthorized website, Byabakama urged the public to rely only on official Electoral Commission channels.
“The mandate to compile, maintain and manage the National Voters’ Register lies exclusively with the Electoral Commission. Any unauthorised access, hosting or use of voter registration data is an offence punishable under the law,” he said.
The Commission disclosed that it has formally engaged the Uganda Communications Commission over the matter.
As campaigns draw closer to polling day, the Electoral Commission appealed to candidates, political parties and their supporters to maintain peace and tolerance.
“Peaceful conduct before, during and after polling is essential for credible elections and national stability,” Byabakama said.
