The Electoral Commission of Uganda has confirmed a new round of voting to address unfinished electoral processes in various parts of the country. The repeat and residual elections are scheduled for Tuesday, 17th February 2026, targeting areas where earlier polls were disrupted or left incomplete.
This decisive move aims to ensure that no constituency is left without representation. According to the Commission, certain districts, city divisions, and municipalities experienced setbacks ranging from logistical complications to administrative interruptions, making it impossible to conclude the initial exercise.Seventy-three areas nationwide will now return to the ballot.

The Commission has described this as a necessary constitutional step to guarantee that all eligible voters are accorded the opportunity to elect their leaders without exclusion or delay.
Officials have assured citizens that comprehensive preparations have been undertaken ahead of the fresh polls. Voting materials have been distributed, trained personnel deployed, and coordination strengthened to prevent a repeat of earlier challenges that affected the process.Security arrangements have also been reinforced to safeguard voters, candidates, and electoral staff.

Authorities say maintaining peace and public order remains a top priority, with security teams positioned to respond swiftly to any disturbances that may arise.Among the prominent positions to be filled is the District Chairperson of Butebo District, a leadership role central to overseeing local governance, supervising development initiatives, and advocating for community interests at the district level.
Residents in the district are expected to play a decisive role in shaping their local administration.Leaders from the Commission have called on voters in all affected regions to turn up in significant numbers and participate responsibly. They have emphasized the importance of cooperation with polling officials and adherence to electoral guidelines to ensure transparency and credibility.
The Commission maintains that these repeat elections represent more than just a procedural requirement. They are a reaffirmation of democratic values, giving every community a voice and strengthening confidence in Uganda’s electoral system as the country works to complete the 2026 election cycle.
