The Mbarara district Veterinary Officer Dr. Andrew Akashaba has revealed that Biharwe and Kagongi sub county Mbarara district have been Quarantined due to foot and mouth disease outbreak.
Dr. Andrew Akashaba while addressing the press at district veterinary office Kamukuzi Mbarara has directed that all movement of cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, their products and by-products from, to, through and within the affected areas be prohibited with immediate effect.
Dr. Akashaba added that a target of thirty animals is to be vaccinated by law enforcement officers such as police, local council leaders.
He requested the general public to enforce quarantine restrictions to prevent the spread of the disease to other clean areas in the district and the city.
Foot and Mouth disease was first reported in the district of Kazo which was later put under livestock quarantine.
The quarantine was later extended to Ibanda district after some cases of the disease were detected.
