The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has unveiled Milutin Sredojevic as the new Uganda Cranes head coach.

The function was held at the FUFA house in Mengo on Tuesday, August 03.

Micho replaces Irishman Johnathan McKinstry whose contract was terminated by mutual consent earlier this year. Abdallah Mubiru has been in charge on an interim basis.

According to Hon. Moses Magogo, FUFA President said that as a federation of football we are looking forward to seeing Ugandan football going to places and raising talents for national development.

“This has been a long revolution since 2005 when the national team was an interest to anyone. A lot of work was done between then and 2013 and the image changed greatly. After 2013 to date, we have seen brilliant results both on and off the pitch.

We now enter a third phase of the progress of Ugandan football and our objective is to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Today we bring in the coach and i ask Ugandans to be very patient with the coach as he ensures with go through the transition that we are in currently.

in his remarks the incoming cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic, Uganda Cranes said he is happy to be back to uganda a county of his dreams.

“I have been dreaming to come back to Uganda. It is a coincidence that when i took over at Orlando Pirates, a lot happened but I apologise for any bad that I may have caused. The time i have been away, i have been to come back. I was born in Serbia but football-wise, i was born in Uganda at Villa Park in Nsambya.

I left in 2017 and went to two of the biggest clubs in Africa in Orlando Pirates and Zamalek where i have learned so much and then in Zambia where i am sure i have set a platform for future success. Coming back again, i think i am a better version-football wise after all the experience i have gathered. I want to give my absolute best.”

At the same function, Micho named the back-room staff that he will be working with where Livingstone Mbabazi will be the Assistant Coach, Fred Kajoba (Goalkeeping Coach), Geoffrey Massa (Team Manager), Ivan Ssewanyana (Physiotherapist).

The rest of the team will be picked by FUFA as they see fit.

Micho returns to Uganda for a third stint following his previous two, one with record Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa and the other with the national Men’s football team, the Cranes.

He guiding the Cranes back to the African Cup of Nations, in 2017, for the first time in 39 years.

Micho’s first task will be to try and get Uganda off to a decent start in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in September.
