The Makindye West Member of Parliament Allan Aloysius Ssewanyana has for the second time failed to meet the requirements for running for the presidency of Uganda’s soccer governing body FUFA.

Allan Ssewanyana has filed to secure the signatures of two regional secretaries supporting his nomination.

Last week, the FUFA Electoral Committee gave the legislator five more days to secure the signatures to complete his nomination. The five days elapsed on Monday. Now, Ssewanyana has asked the Fufa Electoral Committee to nominate him for the FUFA top job despite his failure to meet the requirements.

According to Ssewanyana, the regional secretaries he approached declined to endorse his nomination papers, saying that they had to first get permission from the FUFA CEO, Edgar Watson.

Ssewanyana says that he has written to the FUFA Electoral Committee through his lawyers to allow him to stand for the position without the requirements.

Makindye West MP, Allan Ssewanyana has filed to secure the signatures of two regional secretaries supporting his nomination.

Allan Mulindwa, the leader of Ssewanyana’s legal team, says that the 2012 FUFA electoral codes contravene the National Council of Sports NCS statutory instruments of 2014 No. 8.

The NCS statutory instruments 2014 No. 38 states that “For an individual to participate in the governance of a national sports association, he must have participated in the sport or been involved in the administration of the sport must be a citizen of Uganda, for the purposes of this regulation a person participated in a sport, if that person has played or participated in the sport in school, at the district, regional, national or international level and must have been in the administration of a sport, if that person has been involved in the management or running of the sport at a level recognized by the council.

Apparently, only one nominee, the incumbent FUFA President, Moses Magogo has retuned the nomination forms.

The electoral commission had declared May 31st as the day to finalize the return of the nomination exercise.  The committee has declined to comment on Ssewanyana’s request. The Elective 97th FUFA Ordinary General Assembly will be held in August 2021 in Mbale to elect the FUFA President.
